Sterilization is a humane..

Sterilization is a humane way of reducing the number of stray animals

In 2019 the animal shelter “OTRĀ MĀJA” (“Second Home”) backed by the Daugavpils Municipal Council budget program “Fund for the Support of Social Organizations” implements a sterilization project for male and female cats kept by the families with low-income status.

For there is only one way to prevent the growing number of stray animals in the streets without resorting to the extreme measures, i.e. killing, as was often done before, – and it is timely and regular sterilization of your pets.

Such an approach not only reduces exponentially the number of new stray animals but also makes a positive impact on the upbringing of the younger generation of new people. A good example makes a good future and a society, where “humanity” won’t be just a mere word!

Within the scope of the project, nearly 16 male and 21 female cats are planned to be sterilized. The number of animals may change depending on the number of requests for male or female sterilization we get. The animals will be transported by the specialized vehicle from the parishes and delivered back after the procedure of sterilization is done.

The total amount planned for the project implementation is 911,11 Euro, of which 820,00 Euro (90%) is funding provided by “Fund for the Support of Social Organizations” and 91,11 Euro (10%) are donations.
